Chapter 1, Managing Projects
Example Workflows

These examples let you perform administrative and project management tasks in Toxik. It assumes you are familiar with the Library, and Import Browsers-- see Import Browser and Library Browser.

Hint: You can use scripts to perform virtually any task you can accomplish through the user interface. For example, you might have a script that creates projects. Refer to the Toxik Python API documentation. In the Windows Start menu choose Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk Toxik 2009 > Toxik Documentation > Scripting API.

Workflow for administrative tasks during a project:
  1. Create project--see Creating, Opening or Removing a Project.

  2. Import media--see Importing Media.

  3. Set up and manage background rendering of the work produced during the project.

  4. Archive projects periodically to back them up--see Archiving or Restoring.

  5. Remove projects that are no longer in use--see Creating, Opening or Removing a Project.

Workflow for setting up and managing a project:
  1. Set up the project folders. In most cases, you are recreating the facility-specific project structure in Toxik--see Project Folders and Setting Up Project Folders.

  2. Set the project preferences--see Setting Project Preferences.

  3. Import media into the project--see About Media, Physical Location of Media, Supported Media Formats, Importing Media, Log to Lin Workflows, and Moving Imported Compositions into Project Folders.

  4. View results at any point during the project--see Viewing Published Versions of a Composition and The Player View.

  5. Organize the final output of the project. When you set up the project, you decide where on a physical hard disk you want the published results for the project to reside--see the Publish tab preferences in Setting Project Preferences.

  6. Archive the project--see Archiving or Restoring.
