Custom Import Scripts

This section describes how to create your own custom scripts to autostitch and tesselate models imported into an Autodesk Showcase scene.

In most cases, the default scripts provided by Autodesk® Showcase™ software should be sufficient for importing model files. Here, we describe the available options to create custom import scripts. We also provide background information on some of the concepts related to these options.

What do the import conversion scripts do?

The import conversion scripts provide powerful import functionality invisible to the user:

They determine how to create water-tight (crackless) surfaces by stitching together contiguous surfaces from the original NURBS model. This process is called autostitching. Various options are available to specify when surfaces are autostitched together.
They create meshes to replicate the surfaces. This process is called tessellation, and to create the water-tight surfaces must occur after the autostitching. Various options are available to finetune the tessellation methods and results.
