Installation and Licensing

New installation workflow

The installation screens have a new appearance and the workflow is more straightforward.

NoteAs of version 2011, Alias uses the common Autodesk installation and licensing process. The installation requires a Serial Number and a Product Key for the specific product and bundled products to be installed. When the software is first launched, it needs to be Activated. The activation process checks the Serial Number and Product Key entered during installation with Autodesk servers over the internet, and provides an Activation Code which allows the product to launch.

Network deployments

Network installations, called deployments, have been added in this release. A deployment provides an efficient way to install one or more Autodesk products with a standard configuration on multiple computers. Follow the Help links from the Installer for more information.

Network license timeouts

Network licensing supports license timeouts in this release. A license timeout is a network license option to determine how long a product session can be idle before the license is reclaimed by the license server. Please refer to the Licensing Guide for more information, specifically 'Set Up License Timeout' in the 'Set Up and Use an Option File' section.

NoteIf a user's license is lost because of the idle timeout, the product attempts to claim a new license once the user attempts to use the product again. If no license is available, the user can save work before the product shuts down.
