Motion blur adds realism to a scene's moving objects by simulating the blur that results from objects passing in front of a camera lens over a specified period of exposure. In Softimage, you can easily achieve a photorealistic motion blur effect for every object and/or camera in your scene. Motion blur gives a natural look to fast-moving objects. It is also used as an alternative to field rendering for reducing the strobing effect.
When rendering with mental ray, you have three principally different methods for achieving motion blur:
This section discusses the full 3d motion blur methods. If you want to apply 2d motion blur as a post-process, you can use the mental ray production 2D Motion Blur and Motion Vector (mip) output shaders.
