Smooth

The ICE-based Smooth deformation smooths an object by averaging nearby point positions.

To apply: See Smooth [ICE Deformations].

Tasks: Deformation/Effects

Output Ports: Result

Mute

Toggles the deformation on and off without affecting the values of other parameters.

Mode

Select how point positions are averaged:

  • Point Neighbors uses the points connected by edges.

  • Spatial uses the points within the specified distance.

Common

Iterations

How many times the smoothing algorithm is repeated iteratively. Depending on the object, you may get better results using more iterations with lower strength than fewer iterations with higher strength.

Strength

The amount of smoothing to apply on each iteration.

Keep Bounding Box Size

Rescales the object so that it has the same bounding box as before smoothing. This can help alleviate the shrinkage caused by smoothing, but it can also cause some distortion in the object's shape.

Point Neighbors Mode

Curvature Type

Select how you want to restrict the smoothing operation by curvature:

  • None smooths all points.

  • Concave smooths only indentations.

  • Convex smooths only bumps.

This option has an effect only when Mode is "Point Neighbors".

Spatial Mode

These options have an effect only when Mode is "Spatial".

Distance

The maximum distance between points for them to be considered when averaging positions.

Profile

Controls the falloff over distance of the weight used for averaging point positions.

Max Number Points

Prevents excessive calculations caused by evaluating too many points, for example, if Distance is very high on a dense mesh.
