The Templates directory contains many assets and tools that help you work on projects in MotionBuilder. For example, the Characters folder in the Templates folder contains the Character asset, which is a template that helps you connect character models to a source of motion data.
The Characters folder contains the Actor, Actor face, Character, and Character face templates used when working with character models and character head models. See Actor assets, Actor Face asset, Character assets, and Character Face settings for more information on these topics.
The Commands folder contains Command assets. Drag any Command asset into the Story window to insert Command clips with which you can build animation in the Story window. See Creating command clips for more information.
The Constraints folder contains Constraints that you can use to create relationships between objects. You can use constraints to make a character pick up an object, have a camera follow a character, manipulate other objects in relation to each other or use the keyboard or mouse to trigger events. See Animating Using Constraints for more information.
The Decks folder lets you assign a Deck asset to control, monitor, and synchronize the recording or playback of a VTR (Video Tape Recorders) from within MotionBuilder. See Decks for more information.
The Devices folder contains Device assets, which are either a special software component (such as the Voice and Sound devices) or a separate piece of hardware (joystick, mouse, or keyboard) that connects to your computer using a serial, ethernet, or other connection. See MotionBuilder devices for more information.
The Elements folder contains elements for working with MotionBuilder. See Types of assets for a description of each Asset and what it does.
The Elements folder also contains the Primitives folder, which contains basic building blocks that you can use to build objects in MotionBuilder.
The Physical Properties folder contains the Joint, Ragdoll, and Rigid body Physical solving assets, which let you control the collision behavior created by assets in the Solvers folder. You can use these assets to generate keyframe animation.
The Physical Properties folder also contains a PhysX folder. You can use the Cloth, Fluid, and Softbody assets if your computer has a graphics card that supports PhysX, but these cannot be used to generate keyframes.
See Animating with Physical Properties for more information.
The material, texture, and shader assets are grouped in the Shading Elements folder. The Shading Elements folder contains the Material asset, as well as a Texture asset and a Layered Texture asset meant for use with materials.
The Global Lighting Texture folder in the Shading Elements folder contains various texture and Layered texture assets meant for use with shaders.
The Shaders folder in the Shading Elements folder contains all the shaders, including any custom shaders you may have on your system.
See About materials, Textures and Surface effects for more information.
The Solvers folder contains Solver assets, which lets you create collision effects and apply the results to a linked model. See Solvers for more information.
