Opening an .fbx file

 
 
 

This topic describes how to open (or load) .fbx files created or modified in MotionBuilder and other software.

There are two ways to open .fbx files:

Method Description
File > Open Opens *.fbx files saved in MotionBuilder, 3ds Max or Maya, as well as *.3ds, *.dae, and*.obj files.
File > Motion File Import Imports motion files such as *.fbx files to bring in animation, as well as *.bvh, *.htr, *.trc, *.amc, and *.c3d files.

To open an .fbx file:

  1. Select File > Open from the MotionBuilder menu bar.

    The Open File dialog box appears.

  2. Using the Open File browser, select a file and click Open.

    The Open Options dialog box appears.

  3. Disable any elements of the file you do not want to load with the file.
  4. Activate Apply Namespace if you want to prepend a namespace to objects included in the incoming file.
  5. Click Open.

    The file loads in MotionBuilder.

To open an .fbx motion file:

  1. Select File > Motion File Import from the MotionBuilder menu bar.

    The Import Files dialog box appears.

    NoteThe directory displayed in the Import Files dialog box is the directory you last opened.

  2. Using the Import Files browser, select a file and click Open.

    The Import Options dialog box appears.

    Depending on the file format you select, you may be importing motion data, a skeleton structure, or scenes. The file format also determines the import options and dialog boxes that appear. See Import Options dialog box.

  3. Choose your import options and click Import.

    The file loads in MotionBuilder.
