Switching active assembly representations

The active representation of an assemblyDefinition node is the one that currently displays in the scene to represent the production asset.

You can change which assembly representation is active depending on the performance requirements of the task at hand. For example, you might want only locator representations active while you block out the scene, but you'll need the Scene representations later as you decide how to light a character for rendering.

Note The active representation state is saved with the scene. When the scene is re-opened, the last active representation is automatically loaded.

To switch representations

  1. In the Outliner, select the assemblyReference or assemblyDefinition node containing the representation you want to switch.
  2. Do either of the following to select the representation you want:
    • In the Outliner or scene view, -click and select Scene Assembly from the menu that appears.

(The available representations appear at the top of the Scene Assembly menu. The active representation displays in bold.

    • In the Attribute Editor expand the Assembly Representations heading and select from the Active Representation list.

The selected representation is now active and displays in the scene.
