Extrude polygon components with the Modeling Toolkit

The Modeling Toolkit Extrude tool lets you interactively create extrusions. There are two methods to extrude polygon components, depending on whether you already have a selection in your scene before activating the Extrude tool.

To extrude components from a selection

  1. Open the Modeling Toolkit. See Open the Modeling Toolkit.
  2. In the Modeling Toolkit window, select a component selection mode. See Selection modes.
  3. In your scene, select the polygon component you want to extrude.
  4. In the Mesh Editing Tools section of the Modeling Toolkit window, click Extrude to activate the Extrude tool.

Maya automatically extrudes the component using the settings in the Face Extrude Options.

  5. (Optional) Edit the extrusion by manually adjusting the Face Extrude Options, or do the following:
    • Select the option you want to adjust from the Extrude tool marking menu ( + + ).
    • Click-drag in your scene to interactively increase or decrease the selected setting.
TipTo automatically perform a second extrusion using the current settings, + -drag or + -drag the selected component.

To extrude components without a selection

  1. Open the Modeling Toolkit. See Open the Modeling Toolkit.
  2. In the Mesh Editing Tools section of the Modeling Toolkit window, click Extrude to activate the Extrude tool.
  3. Use the preselection highlight to select the component you want to extrude. See Preselection highlighting.
  4. Click-drag in your scene to interactively increase or decrease the extrusion.
