Chapter 21, Animation
Setting Keyframes Automatically

You can set animation keyframes automatically each time you move to a new frame and modify the attribute values. This process is called AutoKey.

AutoKey lets you to skip the step of pressing a button or hotkey every time you want to set a keyframe. When AutoKey is on and you modify a marked attribute value in any way (using the tool UI, direct manipulation, or scripting), a keyframe for the modified marked attribute value is set at the current time. This is also valid while playing and is usually done this way to define the initial shape of the animation.

If the keyframe, added by modifying a value with AutoKey on, is the first keyframe for that particular attribute, that is, there was no keyframe before and the current time is not the composition start time, then another keyframe is added at the start time. The start keyframe value is the value of the attribute prior to being modified.

To turn AutoKey on:
  1. Select the AutoKey button.
