Track Editor

The Track Editor displays the animation tracks of a composition.

This view has the same features as the tracks editor in the Animation tab of the tool UI, with two exceptions; you can set options for the view, and there are no tangent value editors--see Curve Editor.

Setting Track Editor Options Top

The Track Editor options affect only the Track Editor on which you set options.

To set the Track Editor options:
  1. With the cursor on a Track Editor, middle-click or press the tilde (~) key to display the Gate UI. Go through the south gate.

The Tracks Editor options appear in the tool UI.

  2. Select the Display tab to set the guide options.

Pin -- Lock the time of the view to either Composition or Tool. If you lock the time to Composition, the view always displays animation tracks in global time. If you enable Tool, the view always displays the local time of the tool node currently selected in the Schematic view (you must select the tool before entering the Tracks Editor options panel), regardless of which node is selected in the Schematic view.

Composition -- Display animation tracks in global time.

Tool -- Display animation tracks in the local time of the tool node selected in the Schematic view. If you did not select the Pin option for a specific tool, the Tracks Editor view updates each time you select a different tool node in the Schematic view to reflect the animation track of that tool node.

Snap -- Snaps keyframes snap to the grid or frame when you move them in the Track Editor.

Show Grid -- Display the grid in the view.

Show Axis -- Display the X and Y axis in the view.

Show Ruler -- Display a ruler along the left and bottom edges of the view.

Show Properties -- Display several of the Animation tab Track controls--see The Track Editor.

  3. Select the Playback tab to set the time and frame rate.

  4. Set the View Time options.

Follow Master -- Sets the view to global time. Disable to use its own local time.

Offset -- Lets you set a frame offset for the time. The frame offset is with respect to the time you set for the view. For example, if you set a frame offset of 5 and selected the Follow Master option, the proxy in the view always displays the frame that is five frames ahead of the frame currently running in global time. If you deselected Follow Master, the proxy in the view always displays the frame that is five frames ahead of the frame running in the local time of the view.

Update on Play -- Updates the proxy at each frame when you play the composition. Deselect to update the proxy only when you stop playing the composition, and only at the scrub frames when you scrub through the composition.

  5. Set the Frame Rate options.

Play All Frames -- Plays all frames in the composition, regardless of whether it maintains the frame rate set for the composition. Deselect to have the view maintain the frame rate for the composition, at the expense of dropping frames where necessary.

User -- Lets you set the frame rate at which you want the Schematic view to play the composition. Type the frame rate in the field to the right of this button, or click and drag on the bottom edge of the field to adjust the value.

  6. Stop on Drop -- Stops the Player if a tool is dropped into the dependency graph.
