Upgrading Projects to Version 2009 Extension 1

You can automatically upgrade your projects from a previous version of your Visual Effects and Finishing application to the current version using the copyProjects command-line tool.

Using this tool instead of manually re-creating your projects is the recommended approach, as it reduces the time needed to migrate multiple projects, and prevents human error.

NoteThe copyProjects tool does not copy any media. It only re-creates projects and copies their settings and setups to the current version. You still have to transfer your media using the network library. See Copying Local and Remote Clip Libraries to Your Current Project.

To copy projects using the copyProjects tool:

  1. Log into the workstation as the application user, for example smoke2009_1.
  2. Make sure the latest version of the Wiretap® server is running. Open a terminal and type:

    ps -ef | grep ifffsWiretapServer

If the Wiretap server is running, the command returns a line similar to the following:

    root 25319 25310 0 Jul09 ? 00:01:40 /usr/discreet/wiretap/2009.1/ifffsWiretapServer -c /usr/discreet/wiretap/cfg/wiretapd.cfg

The version of the Wiretap server is reflected by the name of the subdirectory it is running from. In the example above, the version is 2009.1.

  3. If the latest version of the Wiretap server is not running, refer to the Autodesk Stone and Wire Filesystem and Networking Guide for instructions on how to start it.
  4. Run the project copy tool by typing:

    copyProjects

The tool detects all projects from previous versions and prompts you if you want to create copies of them for the current version.

NoteThe tool requires no command-line arguments.
  5. Answer Yes for the projects you want to copy.

The tool creates a copy of each project for the current release. The string _copy is appended to the end of the new project name.

  6. Use the network library to transfer media into the copied projects.
