Export a paint layer

You can export the bitmap image from any paint layer and save it as any of the paint layer formats that Mudbox supports. For example, you may want to further edit or enhance the image in an image editing application or simply convert your existing paint layer into another file format. For a list of supported image formats, see Paint file formats.

Paint layers can be exported as Adobe® Photoshop® files using the .psd file format. You can export a single paint layer or all of the paint layers for a particular paint channel (diffuse, bump, and so on). Mudbox provides additional functionality that extends your workflow by allowing you to work between these two software applications more seamlessly. For more information, see Create and edit paint layers using Photoshop.

  1. In the Layers window, ensure the display button is set to Paint.

  3. From the Layers window menu ( ), select Export Selected.

    The Save As window appears.

  4. Select a directory and image format file type, then enter a name for the image and click Save.
