Set up the printer

This topic deals with options related to the printer—how to choose the printer and set printer options. To learn how to control the appearance of drawings you print, see the other topics in this section.

Set up the printer

In Plot Print Mode

  1. Choose File > Print.
  2. Click the Setup button.

    The Print Setup window opens.

  3. Click the Output tab in the Print Setup window.
  4. Choose the Printer.
  5. Set the Output Style:
    • If you are printing to a PostScript printer, choose PostScript. If you are printing paint layers on canvases, you must use a printer that supports PostScript Level 3.
    • If you are printing to an HP/GL printer, choose one of the HP/GL options. If your printer supports color, choose HP/GL2. Otherwise, check your printer manual to find out which protocol your printer uses.
      Note

It is important to set this option correctly. Sending PostScript output to an HP/GL printer or vice versa only prints pages of indecipherable code.

      Tip

You can also print to non-PostScript/HPGL printers with some restrictions.

See Print to a non-PostScript/HPGL2 printer.

  6. If you must change low-level or advanced options on a PostScript printer, click PostScript features.
  7. Use the options on the Paper tab to choose the paper type and size.

For printers fed by a continuous roll of paper, set the paper type to Rollfeed. For “normal” printers fed by a tray with sheets of paper, set the paper type to Pre-cut.

  8. When you’re done, close the setup window.

In Print Canvas or Print Window Mode

  1. Choose File > Print.
  2. Click the Setup button.

    The Print Setup window opens.

  3. Click the Print Setup button in that second window.
  4. Choose the printer, set the document properties, and choose the number of copies.
  5. Click the Page Setup button.
  6. Choose the Paper Size and other page attributes.
  7. When you’re done, close the Print Setup window.
