Open a file

Use File > Open or File > Open Recent > to retrieve previously saved files, including wireframe models and foreign data formats.

Open a saved wire file

Choose File > Open.
If the file was opened or saved during the current session, you can use File > Open Recent > and select the file from the list.

What if...?

When I open a wire file the screen is blank or the windows change?
Alias saves descriptions of the open windows along with the other information in a wire file. When you open the file again, Alias uses the window layout from the file, even if that means no windows.
- To open view windows, choose a layout from the Layout menu.
- To prevent Alias from loading the window layout from a file when you open, choose File > Open❒, open the Wire Options section and turn off Keep Windows.

The file I want to open is in a different project?
1. In the Go drop-down menu (Windows) or Projects drop-down window (Mac), choose Projects.
2. Double-click the name of the project directory.

I don't know how to use the Open dialog box?
1. Windows: In the Look in box, click the drive, folder, or network location that contains the file.
  Mac: In the box to the left of the Search box, click the drive, folder, or network location that contains the file.
2. In the folder list, double-click folders until you open the folder that contains the file you want.
3. Double-click the file you want to open.

I can't find the file using the Open dialog box?
- The dialog box may only be displaying files of a certain type. To open another type of file, click the Files of type box (Windows) or the Show box (Mac), then click the file format you want, or All files (Windows) or All (Mac).
- To search for the file on Windows, click the Start menu, open the Search submenu and click For Files or Folders.
  To search for the file on the Mac, in the Open dialog box, type the file name in the Search box.

I don’t know how to use the Alias file browser?

I want to use the Alias file browser on Windows?
1. Choose Preferences > General Preferences❒.
2. Choose System on the left side of the option window.
3. Set Type of File Browser to Alias.
