Play Control Property Editor

| Options | Update

Defines how your scene is played back.

To display: Choose Playback Playback Options from the Playback panel below the timeline.

For more information about the playback in general, see Playing Animations or Simulations [Viewing and Playback].

Options

Timing

Frame In

Sets the frame number to appear at the beginning of the timeline. This value must be within the Global In/Out values.

Frame Out

Sets the frame number to appear at the end of the timeline. This value must be within the Global In/Out values.

Curr. Frame

Specifies the number of the currently viewed frame in the viewport.

Key Frame

Specifies the current keyframe on the timeline.

Global In

Start frame for the timeline range, which defines the number of frames available for the scene.

Global Out

End frame for the timeline range, which defines the number of frames available for the scene.

Loop In

Sets the frame number where the loop begins. Yellow markers appear on the timeline showing the frame range of the loop.

Loop Out

Sets the last frame before the scene resets to the beginning of the loop.

Loop

Causes the played-back scene to be repeated in a continuous loop until the play button is pressed a second time. This control has the same effect as using the Loop button in the Playback panel below the timeline.

Precision

Frame Step

Sets the interval at which frames are played back in the viewport. A value of 2 causes the viewports to display only every second frame in the viewport during playback.

Format

Sets the speed at which frames are played back in the viewport (fps = frames per second).

If you select Custom, you must define the number of frames per second in the Frame Rate text box.

Frame Rate

Displays the selected speed at which frames are played back in the viewport.

Fr. Rate change: keep fcurve timings fixed

Allows function curves to maintain their keyframes at the original frame values when the frame rate is changed.

in seconds

The values of the keys at the current frame appear to change.

in frames

The fcurves are scaled to compensate for the change in frame rate.

Update

These options help you determine exactly which objects are updated and how during animation playback.

For other tips on playback optimization, see Optimizing the Playback Speed [Viewing and Playback].

Update Options

By specifying the update options for Selected Objects and near or far Unselected Objects, you can visualize exactly what you need while eliminating unnecessary animation. You can decide what kind of animation should be displayed for these objects.

Selected Objects

Update

Specifies the type of animation that should be displayed for the selected objects: all, none, SRT (transformations), geometry, other, or any combination.

Unselected Objects

Near

Specifies which unselected objects in the foreground update as the scene is played back. The distance at which objects are considered to be near is set by the Near Dist. parameter.

Far

Specifies which unselected objects in the background update as the scene is played back. The distance at which objects are considered to be far is set by the Near Dist. parameter.

Distance Threshold (to Camera)

For the Distance Threshold,

Near Dist.

The threshold in Softimage units at which objects that fall within this distance from the camera are considered near. All other objects are considered far. This is a good way of playing back only the objects that are closer to the camera.

Update Group Visibilities

Updates groups with animated visibilities at each frame change.

On-Frame-Change-Script

Command

Executes a script whenever a frame is displayed. Enter the script name in this box.
