To use SteeringWheels, click a wedge (section) of the wheel and drag to carry out the corresponding action. So for example,
to zoom inside a scene, click and drag the Zoom wedge of the wheel. As you drag, the wheel is replaced by an indicator for
the action you are taking, for example an hourglass. When you release the mouse button, the wheel reappears.
This and other similar tasks are described in this topic.
To display the Full Navigation Wheel:
- On the , click the drop-down.
- Select .
The wheel appears and follows the mouse pointer on the canvas.
To zoom the view:
- Click and hold the wedge.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool.
- Drag the tool upward to zoom in dynamically, or downward to zoom out dynamically.
- Optional: Click the wedge once to zoom in incrementally. Hold down Shift and click the wedge once to zoom out incrementally.
NoteIncremental zoom only works with the Full Navigation Wheel when enabled in SteeringWheels Properties. Right-click the wheel,
select , and under Zoom Tool, select .
- Release the mouse button to exit the tool.
To orbit the view of the object:
- Click and hold the wedge.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool and displays the location.
The location may differ from the default if you set a new target with the tool.
- Drag the tool to move the camera view around the .
NoteWhen viewing the interior of an architectural model, you may find it easier to use , , , or tools to change the view.
- Release the mouse button to exit the tool.
To change the location using the wedge:
- On the , click and hold the wedge to display the location.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool.
NoteThe sphere only appears when the mouse pointer is over an object. When the tool is not over geometry, a circle with a line through
it is displayed.
- Drag the to the location around which you would like to orbit.
- Release the mouse button to change the location.
The view pans to show the new location at the center of the viewport.
TipYou can also change the location by clicking the wedge.
The new location will be used the next time you use any orbit tool, including the or the wedge on one of the . This does not apply to the object pivot point that is used for animation, transformations, and snap.
NoteYou can restore the original location of the model by right-clicking the and choosing .
To move the camera:
- Click and hold the wedge.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool.
- Drag the mouse pointer in any direction to move the camera. For example, drag upward to walk forward, or downward to walk
backward.
TipYou can set whether the tool is constrained to the ground plane; click the down arrow on the lower right corner of the wheel, select Properties,
and select Constrain walk movement angle to ground plane.
- Release the mouse button to exit the tool.
To change the movement speed
You can change the speed at which you move through a model when using the tool.
NoteThe tool must be active to change the movement speed.
- Right-click the SteeringWheel and select or .
TipMake minor camera height changes while walking by pressing Page Up or Page Down.
To look around the view without moving the camera:
- Click and hold the wedge.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool.
- Drag the tool in any direction to point the camera in that direction.
TipWhen the tool is enabled, you can move the camera by pressing the arrow keys.
- Release the mouse button to exit the tool.
To change the camera elevation:
- Click and hold the wedge.
A vertical slider is displayed.
- Drag up or down to increase or decrease camera elevation.
NoteIf you are viewing a model of a multistory building, the tool may pass through floors and ceilings.
- Release the mouse button to set the camera elevation.
To return to a previous view:
- Click and hold the wedge.
A series of thumbnails is displayed. New thumbnails are created each time you release the mouse button when using any SteeringWheel.
- Move the tool over the thumbnails. As you do so, each of the views is displayed on the canvas.
- Release the mouse button to return to the desired view.
TipClick the wedge once to rewind a single view only.
To pan the view:
- Click and hold the wedge.
The mouse pointer changes to the tool.
- Drag the tool to move the view parallel to the screen.
- Release the mouse button to exit the tool.
