Mask sculpting on a layer

Each sculpt layer also has its own mask channel which you can paint to add or remove layer details. The Mask brush lets you hide sculpting by painting opacity values in the areas you don’t want to appear. Sculpting on other layers is unaffected.

Painting a mask lets you make edits to the sculpting on a layer that can easily be reversed if necessary.

To paint a mask

  1. In the Sculpt Layers window, select the layer you want to mask.
  2. To make the mask visible as you paint, click Show Mask at the top of the layers list.
  3. Select the Mask tool from the Sculpt Tools tab.
  4. In the 3D View, stroke on the model in the regions you want to mask.

The sculpting in the masked regions is removed or reduced depending on the properties that you set for the Mask tool.

To remove masking on a layer

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Press the Ctrl key and stroke on the masked region.
    • Turn on Invert Function in the Mask properties window and stroke on the masked region.

To remove the masked areas completely

  1. Turn on Invert Function in the Mask tool properties window, then click Flood.
