In order to add a paint layer mask, there must be at least one paint layer.

To add a paint layer mask

1. In the Paint Layers window, select the paint layer that you want to add a mask to, or select one of the layer masks of a paint layer. Then do one of the following:
   • Click , then select New Layer Mask.
   • Click .
   • Right-click the paint layer or the layer mask, then select New Layer Mask.

A new layer mask with the same resolution and bit-depth as the selected layer is created and added under the layer. If the paint layer already has existing mask layers, the new layer mask is added at the top. The layer mask is given a unique name, by default, and is automatically selected.
