To convert a displacement to polygons

  1. If the displacement isn’t changing over the course of an animation, convert the displacement to a polygon mesh to speed up rendering time.

For any surface, after estimating the sampling rates, use the Create Texture Reference Object tool to create a mesh (see Create Texture Reference Object in the Shading guide for more details). This mesh is made from the displaced tessellation.

If not enough texture details are included, try increasing the Initial Sample Rate.

If the mesh is too jagged, try increasing both the Initial Sample Rate and Extra Sample Rate. You should always set the Extra Sample Rate lower than the Initial Sample rate.
