Paint Fur Attributes Tool

Use the Paint Fur Attributes Tool to paint attributes of a fur description. For more information, see Paint fur attribute values.

Paint Fur Attributes Tool settings

Below are descriptions of the options in the Paint Fur Attributes Tool Settings window. For descriptions of the attributes in the Paint Scripts Tool Settings editor, see Common Artisan Brush Tool Settings in the Artisan guide. See also How Artisan brush tools work in the Artisan guide.

Fur Attribute

Select the attribute you want to paint values for on the surface. If you are painting attractor set values (Attractor Set) select one of the Attractor attributes.

Note

Painting a Fur Description's Attraction updates only one Fur Description, which is selected in the Paint Fur Attributes Tool Settings window. But painting Fur Curve Attractors Influence updates all the Fur Descriptions that are attached to the hair system.

Fur Description

Select the fur description you want to paint. Only the fur descriptions attached to the selected surfaces are available for selection.

Attractor Set

Select the attractor set you want to paint. Only the attractor sets attached to the selected surfaces are available for selection.

Attribute Map Width Attribute Map Height

When you paint fur attributes on a surface using the Paint Fur Attributes Tool, Fur creates value grids the size of which are defined by the number of U and V Samples. When you render a scene, Fur exports these values to maps that the renderer can use. You can define the size of the exported map. (These values are not used if you import value maps in the fur description.)

These values set the width and height of the attribute map to be used by the renderer. The default is 256 x 256. The attribute map should be larger than the number of U and V Samples (as a rule of thumb, the attribute map should be at least twice as large) or you will lose detail for attributes you paint using the Paint Attributes Tool. If your surface has fewer CVs in U and V than the map, increasing the map size has no effect.
