About importing models

Showcase uses models from applications such as 3ds Max and Inventor to create compelling visualization scenes and stories. You need to import these models into Showcase to build your scene.

Ideally you should prepare your models with Showcase interoperability in mind, as described in Prepare models for your scene.

Autodesk recommends importing files using the Open/Create Scene dialog box. See Use the Open/Create Scene dialog box.

When you import FBX files, Showcase provides FBX-specific options to select; see Import FBX files.

Autodesk Inventor files also may require certain settings in Showcase. See Import Inventor files.

CAD files (such as Inventor, AutoCAD and others) are translated using Autodesk DirectConnect. See Import CAD files.

If you change model files in their original modeling package, your changes are not reflected in the Autodesk Showcase scene. You can use the Import Status window (File > Import > Import Status Window) to track changes to original models and reload them when required. For more information, see Reload models.
