Trays organize collections of tools (for example, sculpt and paint tool presets, falloff presets, stamps, stencils, and material
and lighting presets). Items can be added, removed, reordered, or renamed using the tray’s window menu (
). Items on a tray can be reordered by dragging an item using the middle button.
Tip
Quickly select items in Mudbox trays using the number keys on your keyboard. Pressing keys 1 through 9 selects the corresponding
tool in the active tray. Middle-drag your frequently used tools to the first nine positions on a tray.

Trays are stored in the following directories as text files that can be manually edited using a text editor:
- (Windows) <drive>:\My Documents\Mudbox\<version>\data\Trays
- (Mac OS X) /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/Mudbox <version>/Trays
- (Linux) /home/<username>/Mudbox/<version>/data/Trays
Each line of the text file is organized using the convention: object/tool type;name;icon;label.
