Applying a video texture

You can select a video file as a texture’s media, then access its information in the Video settings.

The following steps describe attaching a texture to a materials Diffuse property. For attaching textures to other material properties and seeing a result in the Viewer window, see Materials working with shaders and textures and Advanced material settings.

To apply a video texture:

  1. Open the Shading Elements folder in the Asset browser.
  2. Drag a Texture asset onto a model in the Viewer window.
  3. In the menu that appears, select Attach Texture to Material > Diffuse. A texture is added to the scene.

The texture is attached to the material’s Diffuse property. If the model had no material applied to it, a new material is also added to the scene; it is automatically applied to the model and the texture is attached to its Diffuse property.

    Tip

To set up a video plane quickly, drag the Texture into an empty space in the Viewer window, then select Video Plane from the menu that appears. A plane is added to the scene with the texture automatically attached.

  4. Expand the Textures folder in the Scene browser and double-click the texture to display the Texture settings.
  5. Select New Media in the Texture setting’s Media menu. A file browser opens.
  6. Browse for a video file and click Open.
    Note

    MotionBuilder supports .avi files.

The texture displays in the Texture settings.

  7. Expand the Video folder in the Scene browser and double-click on the video.
  8. The Video settings appear in the Navigator window. For more information about configuring the Video settings, see Video settings.
