XGen Collections

Think of XGen Collections as containers that can hold one or more Descriptions. They organize related sets of Descriptions for a character or scene. You can create a Collection for a character or scene element and add each Description to the Collection. This type of structure lets you organize the Descriptions and associated XGen files for each character.

If there are no Collections in a scene when you create a new Description, XGen creates a Collection. Maya saves Collections as .xgen files. Collection files store information about the contained Description such as attribute values, PTEX map locations, face ID's for patch bindings and guides, and render settings. Collections are the highest-level element in the XGen hierarchy and can contain the following:

Collections do not have attributes, but you can change the file path to the .xgen Collection file and its associated Description files (see Collection).
