Add default primitives to geometry surfaces

You can add default primitives to the surface of polygon meshes. Default primitives include, splines, cards, and spheres.

To add splines, spheres, or card primitives to the surface of selected geometry

  1. Select the polygon mesh or polygon faces on which you want to add the primitives.
  2. Do one of the following:
  3. In the Create XGen Description window, under What kind of Primitives are made by the Description?, select one of the following:
    • Spline.

Use splines to create hair, including short, long and curly hair as well other shape like grass and ribbons.

    • Sphere.

Use Sphere primitives to create pebbles on beaches or for ornaments such as Christmas tree bulbs.

    • Card.

Use Card Primitives to create feathers on characters or patches of grass that appear in the distance of a landscape.

  4. Select how you want to generate the primitives:
    • Randomly across the surface.
    • In uniform rows and columns .
    • At points you specify.

      See Use point maps.

  5. Select how you want to control the primitives:
  6. Preview the generated primitives.
