File > Send to 3ds Max

NoteSend to 3ds Max is only available in the Maya File menu if you have matching versions of Maya and 3ds Max. (Maya 2014 and 3ds Max 2014 are matching versions.)
Send as New Scene

Opens a new scene in 3ds Max, and sends the selected objects from Maya.

If 3ds Max is not already running, this choice opens it. If 3ds Max is already running, you are prompted to save to the current scene or cancel. Selecting Cancel stops the send operation

If you have selected objects in the Maya scene, only those objects are sent; otherwise, the entire Maya scene is sent.

Update Current Scene

Available only if 3ds Max is running. Updates the 3ds Max scene by sending the current Maya selection. If no objects are selected, this choice sends the selection that was previously sent.

Add to Current Scene

Available only if 3ds Max is running. Sends the current selection to 3ds Max. Any selected objects that have already been sent are duplicated in the 3ds Max scene.

Select Previously Sent Objects

Selects objects that were sent to 3ds Max during the last Send as New Scene, Update Current Scene, or Add to Current Scene operation. If you have previously sent multiple objects at the same time, then this command will select all of those objects. However, if you have sent multiple objects separately, then this command will only select the most recently sent object.

This choice is a convenient way to see which objects are already being shared, and to choose which objects to add to the selection.
