Each node that you add to the scene is automatically assigned a default name. The default name identifies the node and the order in which it was added. For example, for the first spline added to Input1, the spline nodes are called Input1SrcSpline1 and Input1DstSpline1. A second spline added to Input1 results in two more spline nodes called Input1SrcSpline2 and Input1SrcSpline2.
Names appears beneath nodes in the Distort schematic and as a folder in the Channel Editor.

You can assign more meaningful names to nodes. If you rename a node, the schematic updates to show the new name. The object is also renamed in the Channel Editor.
