In two-clip editing operations, target clip and record clip refer to the clip that receives material from a source clip. Target clip refers to a clip that receives material in operations that involve the creation of a third clip containing the result of the edit. The original two clips used in the operation are left intact. Many desktop editing commands use this method. A record clip, by comparison, is always the resulting soft clip. For example, when hot keys are used to perform insert or overwrite edits in the Batch timeline, the record clip receives material from the source clip, and becomes the new soft clip.
