The Transfer Paint Layers
option allows you to transfer multiple paint layers from one model
to another. This option is particularly useful, for example, if:
- You have painted textures on one set
of UVs and the UVs change during production. It allows you to transfer
the paint work done onto a new mesh.
- You are working in a games environment
and you have subdivided your base mesh, sculpted details, and then
painted textures for those details. It ensures that when the texture
map is reapplied to the base mesh, the pixels will not be distorted.
Essentially, this option
allows you to save paint work by baking it onto a new mesh with
new UVs.
- Select Maps > Extract Texture
Maps > New Operation.
The Extract
Texture Maps window appears. For a complete description
of all the extraction properties, see
Extract Texture Maps properties.
- Select Transfer Paint Layers.
- Specify the low resolution (target) model
by selecting it in the 3D view, then click the Add Selected button.
You can also click the Add All button and then select the models
that you do not want as the target model and click the Remove button.
- Select one of the following:
- Generate one map for all targets
- Generate a map for each target
- Smooth Target Model is checked by default.
Smooth Target UVs only becomes active when Smooth Target Models
is checked.
- Specify the high resolution (source)
model by selecting it in the 3D view, then click the Add Selected
button.
- Specify a Method. Select Subdivision if
the source and the target mesh have the same base mesh. If not,
choose Ray Casting. If you choose Ray Casting,
you can also specify the following:
- Choose Samples
- Search Distance
- Test Both Sides
- Specify an image size.
- Specify an Antialiasing value.
It is turned off by default.
- There are three transfer options to choose
from:
- All paint layers
- Current layers only
- Visible layers only
- Specify whether to replace existing layers
or add existing layers on the target model.
- Click Extract to
start the paint layer transfer process.
