This section describes limitations that existed in Mudbox 2010 that are now fixed in Mudbox 2010 Service Pack 1.
UV texture coordinates corrupted when imported to models containing n-sided faces
UV texture coordinates were corrupted when imported to models that contained n-sided faces (non-quad). The resulting UV texture coordinates were duplicated and/or partially complete as a result. This has been fixed.
UV smoothing when subdividing models
A new environment variable now exists to alter how the Smooth UVs property works when subdividing a model: MUDBOX2009_SUBDIVIDE_SMOOTH_UV.
When this environment variable is set, the Smooth UVs property works as it did in Mudbox 2009. That is, the entire UV shell, including its UV borders, are smoothed when subdividing a model whenever the Smooth UVs property is turned on.
If this environment variable is not set, the default Mudbox 2010 UV smoothing behavior occurs. That is, smoothing only occurs for the interior UVs in a UV shell, leaving the UV shell border edges unsmoothed.
Which UV smoothing method you choose to use is entirely dependent on your individual rendering pipeline requirements and render application used.
For more information, see Environment variables and Mesh menu.
The automatic edge bleed that occurred along the edges of UV shells when painting could be too large depending on the resolution of the painted texture. This resulted in visible seams on the texture map that were difficult to remove. An Edge Bleed preference now exists to control the amount of edge bleed that occurs.
For more information, see the Preferences window preferences section.
16 bit TIFF paint layer images not saved
Paint layers created as 16 bit TIFF integer files were not saved correctly from Mudbox. This has been fixed.
Undo feature works inconsistently on base sculpt layer
The Undo feature did not successfully return a model to its original state immediately after sculpting on a sculpt layer and then sculpting on the base level of the model. This has been fixed.
User preferences and settings not saved when directory paths contain double-byte characters
By default, Mudbox saves user preferences and settings on Windows operating systems to the My Documents directory. When the My Documents directory path contains double-byte characters (such as found in Japanese, Korean, Chinese languages), user preferences and settings are not saved at the conclusion of a work session.
Users encountering this problem can work around this limitation by setting an environment variable (MUDBOX_USER_DOCUMENTS_PATH) to override the default path and allow Mudbox to save settings and preferences to an alternate user-specified directory. The text strings for the user-specified directory should be restricted to single-byte characters only (Latin alphabet).
For more information and guidelines on its use, see Environment variables.
Expanding or collapsing layer channel causes Mudbox to exit without warning
Mudbox would exit without warning whenever the name field in a paint layer was highlighted (to edit the layer name) and the expand/collapse arrow for the layer channel was clicked. This has been fixed.
Projection painting produces garbled textures on Mac OS X 10.6.X
Painting using the Projection tool on Mac OSX machines running version 10.6.X (Snow Leopard) with NVidia graphics cards could result in textures appearing garbled or disappearing completely. This has been fixed.
Texture extraction using the Smooth Target Model property
Texture extraction using the Smooth Target Model property could cause Mudbox to exit without warning depending on the topology of the model’s UV texture coordinates. This has been fixed.
