The motion capture device samples motion and records it. With a motion capture device, you can achieve real-time monitoring and recording of data.

Device vendors provide servers for the data-server devices supported by Maya. You can also write servers for custom devices using the Maya Motion Capture Developer’s Tool Kit.

The mouse and keyboard are not motion capture devices.
