Documentation

Function set for message attributes.
Description

Function set for message attributes. A message attribute is a dependency node attribute that does not transmit data. Message attributes only exist to formally declare relationships between nodes. By connecting two nodes via message attributes, a relationship between those nodes is expressed. Message attribute connections can be traversed in the same manner as any other connection in the dependency graph.

Functions

MFnMessageAttribute:: MFnMessageAttribute ()

Description

Default class constructor. The function set is not attached to an MObject.

MFnMessageAttribute:: MFnMessageAttribute ( MObject & object, MStatus * ReturnStatus )

Description

Class constructor that initializes the function set to the given MObject.

Arguments

  • object the MObject to attach the function set to
  • ReturnStatus the return status
    • MS::kSuccess if the function set is successfully attached
    • MS::kInvalidParameter if the MObject does not represent a valid Maya object or if the function set is not allowed to attach to this MObject

MFnMessageAttribute:: MFnMessageAttribute ( const MObject & object, MStatus * ReturnStatus )

Description

Class constructor that initializes the function set to the given constant MObject.

Arguments

  • object the const MObject to attach the function set to
  • ReturnStatus the return status
    • MS::kSuccess if the function set is successfully attached
    • MS::kInvalidParameter if the MObject does not represent a valid Maya object or if the function set is not allowed to attach to this MObject

MFnMessageAttribute:: ~MFnMessageAttribute ()

Description

The class destructor.

MFn::Type MFnMessageAttribute:: type () const

Description

Return the type of this function set.

Return Value

  • the constant MFn::kMessageAttribute

MObject MFnMessageAttribute:: create ( const MString & fullName, const MString & briefName, MStatus * ReturnStatus )

Description

Creates a Message attribute object.

The create method needs to be called on a per node basis. That means if you want to create and add the same attribute to multiple nodes, you need to call the create method for each node to get a unique MObject back. If you call create just once and add the attribute to multiple nodes, Maya will encounter a fatal error.

Arguments

  • fullName The full name of the attribute
  • briefName The brief name of the attribute
  • ReturnStatus Status code for the operation.

Return Value

  • The newly created Message attribute object.

Status Codes

  • MS::kSuccess The attribute object was successfully created.
  • MS::kFailure Failure during attribute creation.
