Combine per-vertex Normals
Smoothing Groups
Activating this option stores Smoothing
Group information in your Maya scene. This option lets
you preserve Smoothing Group information
for future export operations. It has no effect on your visual result
in Maya.
The plug-in exports Smoothing Groups only
if you use the Smoothing Groups option in
the FBX Importer and Exporter.
The plug-in stores this information temporarily as blind data in
your Maya scene because Maya does not directly support Smoothing
Groups.
NoteThe most common use for the Smoothing Groups option
is to import geometry data from 3ds Max and so that Smoothing
Group information is preserved for export at a later
time. Preserving the Smoothing Groups avoids the
need to re-evaluate the Smoothing Groups when
you reimport the file in 3ds Max (or other applications that support Smoothing Groups).
