When Do I Use This?

You do not need to change this option if you are using the latest FBX Plug-ins in the source and destination applications. You only need to use this option if you plan to import your file using an older plug-in version.

For example, if you want to export from 3ds Max 2013 and import to 3ds Max 2012 using the latest FBX 2013 versions of the plug-ins in both applications, you do not need to change the export FBX version. The file is compatible when you use the FBX 2013 versions of the plug-in.
