Alias now uses the common Autodesk installation and licensing process. The installation requires a Serial Number and a Product Key for the specific product to be installed. When the software is first launched, it needs to be Activated. The activation process checks the Serial Number and Product Key entered during installation with Autodesk servers over the internet, and provides an Activation Code which allows the product to launch.

A 30-day trial can be started after installation, but the trial period cannot be renewed and is 30 consecutive days from the first launch of any installed product that uses the same license. After a trial has expired, the software must either be licensed and activated, or uninstalled. Reinstallation will not provide another 30 day trial.

For network-license installations, new network license server software with a different license type is required. Please see Network Licensingfor more information and details on installing and licensing the software in a network environment.

Note that hardware locks (dongles) are no longer supported. Their function has been replaced by the license transfer utility.
