How
to pick, divide, subset, or merge point clouds.
Overview
When working with very
large point clouds, divide the cloud into more manageable pieces.
This allows you to work on one area without running into the rest
of the cloud. Use the Subset tool
to divide the cloud into smaller subclouds.
On the other hand, you
may need to merge these divided clouds back into a large cloud. Or,
you may want to merge several small clouds gathered from different
sources. Use the Merge tool to merge clouds
into a larger combined cloud. You can:
- Discard unwanted points from a cloud.
- Divide a large cloud into smaller clouds.
- Merge smaller clouds into a new, larger
cloud.
Pick only point clouds
- Choose Pick > Object Types > Cloud .
- Select a cloud by clicking on one of
its points, or dragging a pick box around part of it.
Separate points out into
a new cloud
- Pick the cloud you want to divide.
- Choose Point Clouds > Subset ❒ to open the option window.
- Under Keep which region,
choose Both, then click Go.
- Use the mouse to select/deselect the
points you want to separate. You can drag a pick box to select/deselect
many points at once.
- Click Go.
The selected points are
placed in a new cloud.
Delete points from a cloud
(take a subset)
- Pick the cloud you want to divide.
- Choose Point Clouds > Subset ❒ to open the option window.
- Under Keep which region,
choose whether you will pick the points you want to keep (Points
inside region) or the points you want to discard (Points
outside region), then click Go.
- Use the mouse to select/deselect the
points for the subset. You can drag a pick box to select/deselect
many points at once.
- Click Go.
The Subset tool
either creates a subset of the cloud containing the points you selected, or
deletes the subset you selected and keeps the remaining points,
depending on the option you chose.
