Proportional Volume Operator Property Editor

Controls a deformation made by attaching and transforming a volume deform object.

To apply: Attach a volume deform object to a geometric object, then transform the volume deformer.

To redisplay: Select the deformed object, click the Selection button on the Select panel, then click the Proportional Volume Operator icon.

To change settings for the current operation: While the volume deformer is still attached and selected, choose Modify Component Inspect Volume Deform from the Model toolbar.

To change default settings for future operations: Choose Modify Component Volume Deform Setup from the Model toolbar.

Mute

Toggles the deformation on and off without affecting the values of other parameters.

Power

Controls how closely the deformed points follow the center of the volume deformer as it is transformed. When Power is 100 the points follow exactly, when Power is 50 they follow halfway, when Power is greater than 100 they overshoot, and when Power is negative they move in the opposite direction.

Start Damping

Defines a radius within which the deformation has full power, and after which it falls off. Values are a percentage of the volume deformer's radius. At 0, the Power falls off from the center. At 100, all points within the volume are deformed with full Power.

Envelope Mode (Deform Relative to Parent)

Makes the deformation relative to the volume deformer's parent. This allows you to parent the volume deformer to an envelope deformer.

Interpolation

Controls how the deformation is calculated.

  • Linear is faster to calculate.

  • Transform may give better results, particularly when the volume deformer is rotated.

Falloff Profile

Controls how the Power falls off from the Start Damping radius to the end of the volume deformer's radius.

You can edit the profile using the mouse and the same keyboard commands as the animation editor, or right-click to display a menu.
