File Input

| Operator | Post Processing | Timing | Operator

Represents imported images and render passes in the FX Tree. Also controls the start and end frames, as well as the frame offset.

Produces an output (Any)

File Input

File Path

Displays the name and path of the imported image or render pass.

Type

Allows you to specify which of the imported image's channels are output by the operator:

RGB: outputs the image's Red, Green, Blue channels.

RGBA: outputs the image's Red, Green, Blue, and Alpha channels.

Alpha: outputs the image's alpha channel.

Bit Depth

The bit depth to be output the image:

  • 8 bit is a 1 byte integer.

  • 16 bit is a 2 byte integer.

  • float is a 16-bit floating-point value.

  • HDR preserves HDR information in unclamped 16-bit floating-point color values. Only OpenEXR files are supported. Note that some processing nodes will clamp HDR information.

Create Alpha from Luminance

Outputs a grayscale image, created using the image's luminance values. This image can then be used as a matte. The image Type must be set to Alpha for this option to be available.

Image Size

Width/Height

Specifies, in pixels, the width and height of the image when output by the operator.

Range

Start /End

The range defined by these two parameters specifies how much of the source clip to use. For example, a start frame of 1 and an end frame of 50 means that 50 frames of the source clip are used.

These parameters are the same as those found on the File Input tab. Adjusting them in one place will automatically adjust them in the other.

Start Offset

Offsets the selected range of the source clip. For example, an offset of ten means that the selected range will begin at the clip's tenth frame.

Reverse Footage

Reverses the clip such that it plays backwards from last frame to first.

File Parameters

Reload on File Path Change

When activated, the image is reloaded whenever you change the File Path.

Reload Now

Reloads the image.

Info

Displays useful information about the source image such as its size, bit depth, pixel ratio, and memory requirements per-frame.

Post Processing

Automatic Delog (Cineon/DPX Files)

When enabled, Cineon/DPX files are automatically converted from logarithmic color space to linear color space.

Un-Premultiply Image on Load

When enabled, imported images are automatically un-premultiplied when you load them.

HDR and OpenEXR

These options are for use with High Dynamic Range images, and have an effect only when the image file format is either HDR (.hdr) or OpenEXR (.exr).

Exposure (f-stop)

Offsets the image's original exposure in f-stop units. Higher values increase the exposure, brightening the image, while low values decrease the exposure, darkening the image.

The offset can range from an f-stop value of -12 to 12. When set to 0, the image is used as is.

Display Gamma

Performs a display-only gamma correction in order to properly display the image on a monitor.

This value has an effect only when the image is displayed in any of Softimage's textured display modes, or in an image clip viewer, property editor, flipbook, and so on. It is ignored for rendering purposes.

Timing

The options on the Timing tab allow you to specify the active range of the image sequence, specify an offset, reverse the sequence, and create extrapolation before and after a specified range of frames.

Source Range

Before

Controls extrapolation before the source range.

Type

The type of extrapolation:

  • Black Frame: all frames before the first frame specified in the Source Range options are output as completely black frames with an Alpha value of 0.

  • Hold: holds the first frame, as specified in the Source Range options, for a specified number of frames before the Start frame is reached. You specify the number of frames by setting the Frames value. Frames outside of the held range are output as black frames.

  • Cycle: repeats the Source Range for the number of times specified by the Cycles value.

  • Bounce: repeats the Source Range forward, then backward, and so on for the number of times specified by Cycles value.

Frames

When Type is set to Hold, this value determines the number of frames that the first frame is held for.

Cycles

When Type is set to Cycle or Bounce, this value specifies the number of times the source range cycles or bounces.

After

Controls extrapolation after the source range.

Type

The type of extrapolation:

  • Black Frame: all frames after the last frame specified in the Source Range options are output as completely black frames with an Alpha value of 0.

  • Hold: holds the last frame, as specified in the Source Range options, for a specified number of frames after the End frame is reached.

Frames

When Type is set to Hold, this value determines the number of frames that the last frame is held for.

Cycles

When Type is set to Cycle or Bounce, this value specifies the number of times the source range cycles or bounces.

Operator

Operator Name

Specifies the operator's name.

Active

Toggles the operator's effect on and off.
