You can create and edit your own custom layouts and relational views in Softimage. This lets you customize the interface to your preferred way of working, or create specialized windows for accomplishing certain tasks.
Layouts define the configuration of the views and panels in the main Softimage window. They are stored as XML-based files with the .xsily extension in the Application\layouts subdirectory of the user, workgroup, or factory path. At startup, Softimage gathers the files it finds at these locations and adds them to the View Layouts menu.
Relational views are multi-pane floating windows designed to assist in particular tasks. You can define relationships so that the selection in one pane drives the view in another. Relational views are stored as XML-based files with the .xsivw extension in the Application\views subdirectory of the user, workgroup, or factory path. At startup, Softimage gathers the files it finds at these locations and adds them to the View Views menu.
Layouts and relational views that are found in your user location are marked with u in the View menu, and nd in a workgroup location are marked with w.
As with all customizations, you can package layouts and relational views into add-ons so that you can easily distribute them to other users. See Building and Deploying Customizations [SDK Guide].
