Modulate by Null

This compound modifies particle or object parameter values when the particles or object's points are within a null's icon shape.

Plug its Value (scalar) output into any compound's port that accepts scalar data, such as the Speed, Mass, and Size ports on the Emit compound.

If you use this compound with the Emit compound, you need to plug another instance of its Value output into a Set Data compound for the type of data you're modifying (such as Set Particle Size if you're modifying the Size parameter). Then plug this Set Data compound into a port on the ICETree node so that the data is evaluated at every frame instead of just once at emission.

For more information, see Modifying Particle Values by Null or Volume [ICE Particle Simulations].

Tasks: Particles/Modifiers,Deformation/Modifiers

Output Ports: Value

Null Name

The null you want to use to modulate the particle's or object's values. Plug the null's Out Name output into this port.

Because a null is drawn as intersecting lines by default, you need to open the null's property editor and change the Icon shape to something with volume for this compound to work (such as box, pyramid, diamond, etc.).

Profile

This graph determines the shape of how the particle or object values are modified when they are within the null. The graph represents the Multiplier value (Y axis of the graph) over the distance within the null (X axis of the graph).

Multiplier

Multiplies the current value of the parameter you're modifying.
