Polygon Filter Op Property Editor

 
 
 

Selectively removes polygons based on incidence angle or area.

To apply: Select the some polygons, then choose Modify Poly. Mesh Filter Polygons from the Model toolbar.

To redisplay: Select the polygon mesh, click the Selection button on the Select panel, then click the Polygon Filter Op icon.

Nb Points, Polygons

Displays the number of Points and Polygons in the resulting mesh. These values are for information only; they cannot be changed directly, but will change as a result of other settings.

Filter Type

Specifies the criterion for removing polygons:

  • Incidence Angles dissolves pairs of polygons whose dihedral angle is less than a threshold. Use the Polygon Incidence Angle to set the threshold.

  • Polygon Areas removes polygons smaller than a threshold. Use the Polygon Area slider to set the threshold. Use Action to specify how to remove polygons.

Incidence Angle

Dissolves pairs of polygons whose dihedral angle is less than this value in degrees, when Filter Type is set to Incidence Angles.

Area

Removes polygons smaller than the specified size in Softimage units squared, when Filter Type is set to Polygon Areas.

Action

Specifies whether to Dissolve or Collapse polygons. This option applies only when Filter Type is set to Polygon Areas.

Dissolve by Pair

Dissolves polygons sequentially, one pair at a time. This ensures that, for a given polygon, the adjacent polygon being considered for co-removal is the most coplanar one. If this option is off, polygons are dissolved all at once and the end result may consist of large, non-planar polygons. This option applies only when Filter Type is set to Incidence Angles.

Filter Sub Edges

Cleans up edges that are no longer necessary after filtering. If a vertex is shared by three or more polygons before filtering, but by only two polygons after filtering, then it is collapsed.

This option does not affect points that were already shared by only two polygons before filtering, and in particular it will not affect boundaries. To remove those points, see Filtering Edges {Modeling].
