Merge Surfaces Property Editor

Creates a new surface that spans two existing surfaces.

To apply: See Merging Surfaces [Surface and Curve Modeling].

To redisplay: Select the merged surface then choose Edit Properties Modeling Properties and click the Merge Surfaces tab.

Inputs

Hide/Unhide

Hides all the inputs for the generated object to simplify the display of your scene in the 3D views, or unhides the inputs when you need to modify them.

Delete

Freezes the generator and deletes the inputs. This simplifies the scene once you are satisfied that you won't need to modify the inputs again.

Subdivisions

Subdivision Type

Determines how you specify the number of subdivisions in the result.

  • Per Span uses the "natural" subdivisions as determined by the shapes of the inputs. You can subdivide each segment further using the U and V span sliders.

In this case, discontinuities resulting from multiknots in the inputs are preserved in the generated objects.

  • Absolute allows you to set the total number of subdivisions using the U and V abs sliders.

U, V span

The number of subdivisions corresponding to each segment of the inputs, when Subdivision Type is Per Span.

U, V abs

The total number of subdivisions, when Subdivision Type is Absolute.

Shape

Continuity

The continuity of the merged surface at the boundary where the original surfaces meet:

  • Position (C0). The merged surface may have a sharp point.

  • Tangent (C1). The tangent of the merged surface does not change abruptly.

  • Curvature (C2). Neither the tangent nor the curvature of the merged surface changes abruptly.

Seam

The location of the seam between the two surfaces:

  • First Surface. The seam is at the boundary of the first surface.

  • Second Surface. The seam is at the boundary of the second surface.

  • Average. The seam is midway between the surfaces.

  • Curve. The seam is at the curve you picked when you applied the command.

Modify Tangent

The surfaces whose tangents are adjusted to maintain the continuity:

  • First Surface. Only the tangent of the first surface is modified.

  • Second Surface. Only the tangent of the second surface is modified.

  • Average. The tangents of both surfaces are modified.

Start, End Surface

These parameters affect the blending between the two surfaces.

Range

Affects the position where blending begins on the corresponding surface.

Tangent Scale Factor

Affects the extent of the influence of the surface on the blend.
