Syflex Mimic

This compound constrains a simulated cloth or curve's vertices to those on another object that has the same topology (the same object type and same number of vertices). When the constraining object is animated (using any transformation or deformation), the vertices of the cloth or curve attached to it will mimic it.

The vertices of the cloth or curve are attached directly to the constraining object's vertices using the same index (that is, vertex 37 on the cloth or curve is constrained to vertex 37 on the constraining object). Obviously, the easiest way to get the same topology is to duplicate the cloth or curve object and then deform that duplicate object as you like.

To apply: See Making a Cloth or Curve Mimic an Object.

Tasks: Syflex/Constraints

Output Ports: The Force output plugs into the Force port on the Syflex Cloth or Syflex Curve node.

Distance

Distance (in Softimage units) between the cloth or curve's vertices and the constraining object. When this value is:

  • Greater than 0, the vertices are constrained to the constraining object with a spring.

  • Equal to 0, the vertices of the cloth are fully constrained to the constraining object without a spring. This is faster to compute.

  • Less than 0, the springs have no compression force.

Stiff

Stiffness of the spring between the cloth or curve vertices and the constraining object.

Increase this value to keep the cloth or curve vertices at the same distance from the constraining object. If you do this, you should also increase the Damp value.

This parameter is available only if the Distance value is greater than 0.

Damp

The damp coefficient, which controls the intensity of the damping effect on the spring.

When the spring is very stiff, infinite oscillations (vibrations) may occur. These vibrations can be avoided by increasing this value.

This parameter is available only if the Distance value is greater than 0.

Point Cluster

The point cluster on the cloth or curve object that you want to use for mimicking. Plug its Get Data node's Out Name output into this port.

Object

The constraining object to which the cloth or curve vertices are constrained and will mimic. Plug its Get Data node's Out Name output into this port.

This object must match in topology (object type and number of points) to the simulated cloth or curve object.
