Align Particle to Position

This compound aligns particles to any position in global space, including the global position of an object.

To use a camera for this purpose, see the Align Particle to Camera compound.

Plug this compound's Execute output into a Port on the ICETree node.

For more information, see Aligning Particles to a Camera or a Position (Billboarding) [ICE Particle Simulations].

Tasks: Particles/Orientation

Output Ports: Execute

Local Vector

The vector that is used to align the particles. The Y axis is typically the vector that points along the length of a particle. If you change the particle shape to cone, you can see that the Y axis is the direction of the cone point. The X and Y axes are the sideways axes.

Weight

Defines how much the particle is rotated each frame. The value is a ratio, so if you set it to 1.0, the particle is immediately aligned. If you set this value to 0.1, the particle rotates by 10% each frame.

Global Pos

The XYZ position in global space to which the particles are aligned.

You can also plug in the global position of an object to have the particles aligned toward it in order to create "billboard" effects. Create a Get Data node for the object, then open its property editor and enter .kine.global.pos after the object's name in the text box. Plug the object's Value output into this port.
