This shader gets ICE attributes of the Scalar data type created in an ICE tree. To use this shader, you must first make sure that the object or its components have the appropriate attribute created for it in an ICE tree.

Plugs into any port on a shader that supports Scalar data, such as the input ports on the Particle Gradient shader. For example, you could drive the gradient color based on the age limit of the particles defined via the Scalar Attribute shader.
