Rotoscopy

Rotoscopy is a technique in which video or film images are placed in the background of a scene, one frame at a time. You can use these reference images for modeling or animation by tracing objects from the images, matching your objects with the images' motion, or matching your camera's point of view with that of the images. Rotoscoped images are sometimes called background plates, backplates, or backdrops.
