Copy a scene to a different location

Model files (A3G files) are referenced by the Autodesk Showcase A3S scene file. A3G files are stored in a companion folder with the scene file and need to be copied along with the A3S file when moved to a different location.

Typically, you can use File > Save As to save a copy of a scene to another location on your hard drive or on your network. In this case, any files referenced in the scene (image files, geometry files, and so on) are copied over automatically.

However, you may want to copy scene files manually to an off-network location (via CD ROM or other portable medium, for example). In this situation, you also need to copy all referenced files to view the contents of the scene. These files are kept in a “companion” folder located in the same folder as the scene file.

Copy a scene to an off-network location

  1. Use Windows Explorer to go to the system folder where the scene file is stored.
  2. When you move or copy the scene file (it has a suffix A3S), also move or copy its companion folder (it is a folder with the same name as the scene file and with the suffix “-files”).

For example, if you are moving the file myscene.a3s, also move the folder to the same location called myscene-files. See Save your scene.
