Muting the BaseAnimation

The animation on a BaseAnimation layer is always part of the result animation. Though the BaseAnimation layer can be locked, it cannot be muted, soloed, or parented to other layers. You can take the following steps to work around this.

To mute BaseAnimation layer:

  1. Select the BaseAnimation layer, then click the Duplicate Layer button in the Animation Layer toolbar.

A new layer appears containing the same animation as the BaseAnimation layer.

  2. Right-click the BaseAnimation layer and select Clear Animation on Layer from the context menu.

The keyframes on the BaseAnimation layer are deleted. The animation is still part of the result animation however, because you copied it the other layer.

  3. Click the duplicated layer’s Mute button.

The animation that was originally set on the BaseAnimation layer no longer plays in the result animation.
