Limit & Motor properties

The Limit and Motor properties section lets you specify behaviors that drives the motion of the joint.

High/Low limits

The high and low limits act like degrees of freedom that you can set and animate individually for each joint.

Use the limits settings to set joint behavior so that the affected objects only move in specific direction, for example left to right, or no more than 90 degrees.

Motor force/Motor rate

Use these sliders to introduce force or a “Motor” behavior into the solve of the joint so that it has a built-in motion that drives the joint and simulate motor-type joint connections. This applies forces on the joint, as if you are “driving” the objects.

If you apply a positive force on the X-axis of an object, it moves forward. If you apply a negative force, it creates a backward motion. Use the different axes to choose an axis that has more influence over the others.

Note

The Motor Force settings apply to all joints except Spring.

Setting Description
Motor Force Use the Motor Force field to set the strength, or amount of force, as well as the direction of influence.
Motor Rate Use the motor rate field to set how much force pushes the affected object.
